#EqualPlayEqualPay Newsletter (11.06.19)

Equal Work Equal Pay is a simplified way of stating the obvious: our gender identities do not define our wages or our investment worth. Our #EqualPlayEqualPay campaign, partly inspired by the US Women's National Team, is designed to be a meaningful way to engage community changemakers to ensure equal investment and equal pay for women and girls in sports.

In New York City, the Cristo Rey High School Girls Soccer Team is now a local organizing powerhouse! They are meeting with their principal, organizing their classmates (including the boys soccer team!), and making moves to inspire cultural and systemic change for Equal Play Equal Pay at their school and in their community.

Fueled by their own experience with seeing more organization and investment go into the boy's soccer league, being allocated smaller/run-down practice fields, and having inadequate practice equipment, the CRHS Girls Soccer Team is making its voice heard and creating meaningful change.

This Friday, November 8, 2019, you can see their organizing efforts while cheering them on! The CRHS Girls Soccer Team is competing for a spot in their league playoffs and dedicating their game to #EqualPlayEqualPay. The game will be played at 4:10 PM at Reverend Polite Playground in the Bronx. Join us!

Equal Play Equal Pay isn't just for professional athletes. Research shows that participation in sports has significant effects on health, confidence, future earnings, and leadership skills. The negative impact of unequal pay and inequitable investment in girls and women at all levels isn't just immediate, but also long-term. Ensuring #EqualPlayEqualPay gets us one step closer to the equal, inclusive future we all seek!
